A mistake was found and fixed in the 2013 calendar moonday dates, 2013 Dec 31 is a New Moon day.

If you have added the moonday calendar to your Google Calendars, it might take a few hours before the changes take effect.

The PDF downloads are updated, this includes the photo calendar and the year planners.

If you are using the year planner, we recommend to download the updated PDF.

International Elders Meeting at Wat Pah Nanachat, January 12-15th

To coincide with the commemoration of the twentieth-anniversary of Ven. Ajahn Chah’s passing away, there was a gathering of senior Western monks and nuns at Wat Pah Nanachat, the ‘International Forest Monastery’ in Ubon, NE Thailand. Luangpors Liem and Sumedho opened the gathering by offering encouraging addresses and Luang Por Khemadhammo presided over the meetings. More than forty monks and nuns, hailing from monasteries in Canada, USA, Europe, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand, then met for four days of discussions. This site also replaces dhammatalks.org.uk and dhammathreads.org, i.e. audio files are offered for listening live and download, and CDs are available for posting upon request.

Upajjhaya Appointments

On Sunday the 10th of July 2011 at Cittaviveka Forest Monastery the ordination of five new bhikkhus and one samanera took place, thirty years and one week since Luang Por Sumedho had conducted the first ordination (upasampada) on the old croquet lawn of what was then Chithurst House. This time the five new bhikkhus were ordained by Ajahn Amaro. This event was also significant in that it was the first ordination to be performed by Ajahn Amaro. Immediately prior to conducting these ordinations, Ajahn Amaro and Ajahn Chandapalo had had their appointment as preceptors (upajjhaya) acknowledged...

As the voices of the assembled Sangha recited the words of the Discourse on the Turning of the Wheel of Dhamma – the Buddha’s primal teaching on the Middle Way and the Four Noble Truths – we filed up, one by one, and offered our gratitude to Luang Por Sumedho.

Each member of the monastic community of the European branch monasteries had previously been given a small card in a golden envelope; we were invited to write upon it an expression of our gratitude and words of parting from the heart. As the sounds of the Pali syllables merged...

Amaravati Kathina and Taking Leave of Luang Por Sumedho by the Lay Community

Over 1000 friends and supporters of the Sangha gathered together at Amaravati Monastery on Sunday 15th November to participate in the Kathina ceremony. This annual occasion for reaffirmation of spiritual community is always poignant, but this year was made particularly so with the awareness that our teacher, Luang Por Sumedho, would soon be leaving to return to live in Thailand.
